Our big day! Tania & Reuben Maindonald.

Wearing our honourable maori korowai (feathered cloaks) which tell a story. The taniko (band that starts at the top of the feathers) represent my polynesian/brown tongan mat colours. Reuben’s is more of hawaiian/masculine royal meaning. Feathers on mine are intertwined in his and vice versa, binding us as one.

Harakeke Flowers.

Huge thank you to Mikayla of Harakeke Flowers who did such an amazing job. Not only my posy, but the bridesmaids, boys buttonholes, cake topper, hapene wrap around the cake, hair accessories, head table centrepiece.

My thinking was to gift all the flowers to my bridal party after the ceremony and reception so they had this to keep for many years and the colour lasts a while when dyed correctly.

You can see these gorgeous flowers hanging in my private Wedding Venue here in Te Atatu South, Auckland.

Reception Dancing.

An honour dancing for our family. The Ta’olunga traditional tongan dance is only done by females.

This fine mat costume I was wearing, has been kept through the generations and is over 80 years old. You can see family coming up and placing money on me as I dance.

Grateful to my mother who taught me this dance - song: Fangailupe Malu Efiafi.
